ANNOUNCING: THE LAUNCH OF THE DEMOCRACY DEFENDERS PROJECT

Defending Voting Rights, State by State

The Democracy Defenders project will organize prominent public figures with an expertise in voting rights, in every state in the union, to inform eligible voters about everything they need to know to vote and have their vote counted.

The Democracy Defenders will be complemented by the Tim Carpenter Institute’s ongoing Voters Calendar Project, which has all such information for every state on one easy-to-use website.

The Democracy Defenders and Voters Calendar projects are essential non-partisan educational services in an era when voting rules and regulations are frequently changing from election to election.

Of course, history has shown that democracies, when not fought for and protected can collapse. But we know that deep down in our souls that the human spirit is stronger than anything. This spirit, our human spirit, has proven time after time to be incredibly resilient and able to withstand adversity and surpass challenges, both large and small as well internal and external.

Americans overwhelmingly support democracy, but our vigilance is required to protect our democratic elections and ensure fair voting systems. Thus, with great courage, perseverance, and a strong will to fight and keep our democracy, we are announcing the launch of the Democracy Defenders Project.

The Democracy Defenders project is designed to protect democracy primarily through informing the public with clear factual information.

Also, when pertinent, the Democracy Defenders, as experts in the best practices of functioning democracies, will also assess how state and local election systems compare to internationally accepted standards for best practices.

The project will operate across the entire country at the local, state, and national level. This approach is essential since American elections are run by the states. Every state in the country has distinctive election rules, and voting infrastructure differs from county to county.

The project will have at least one prominent election expert (i.e. a Democracy Defender) in every state - and in any state that has experienced significant changes in voting rules and regulations from previous elections, a state’s lead Democracy Defender will also build a roster of local election protectors from across their state.

The Democracy Defenders program is non-partisan and will feature objective information to the American people about the practical operation of their democracy, and democracies in general. This will be achieved through appearances on high-profile media platforms (both traditional and digital) and public forums, as well as the publication of articles and distribution of information.

To summarize, the goal of the Democracy Defenders project, working in tandem with the Voter’s Calendar initiative, is to provide the public with the necessary information to preserve a healthy democracy in the United States.

This information can be split into two categories:

1. Explaining to the public how they can navigate current election rules and regulations to make sure they can vote and that their vote will be counted. In an era when voting rules and regulations are changing from election to election - and they can differ dramatically from state to state, just as voting infrastructure differs from county to county - this information is more important than ever.

2. Outlining to the public what objective evidence, drawn from across the country and the world, has taught us about best democratic practices so that we can build a truly healthy 21st century democracy locally, state-wide, and across the nation.

The Democracy Defenders and the Voters Calendar projects will be fully operative in advance of the 2025 “off-year” elections in early November 2025.
